How are Japanese characters counted?
Each character counts as one, whether it is a kanji, a kana, a Latin letter, or a full-width symbol. The counter also breaks the total down by script so you can see exactly what a passage is made of.
Why does my count differ from another tool?
Most differences come from Unicode normalisation. Text copied from macOS often stores が as two codepoints, which naive counters report as two characters. This counter normalises first, so you get the number of characters you actually see.
Does it count spaces and line breaks?
Yes, and it reports them separately. You get a total, a total excluding whitespace, and a line count, so you can match whichever limit you are working against.
