Japanese Text Tools
Tools that measure text rather than change it. Counting Japanese is not the same as counting characters — a form limit, a translation quote and a reading-level check all want different numbers — so these report the breakdown instead of one total.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the word count say 1 for a Japanese sentence?
Because Japanese does not put spaces between words. A whitespace-based count is the only one that can be made without a dictionary, so it is reported honestly rather than guessed at; for Japanese the character counts are the meaningful numbers.
